Ann Romney’s Convention Speech: What you need to know

All of the speeches last night, including Ann Romney's, were about the speakers, rather than the candidate. When teaching writing, especially persuasive writing, we offer the advice "show it, don't say it." When speaking of her husband, Ann Romney said, repeatedly, how wonderful he is, how trustworthy, how warm, etc., but she never showed us any evidence. In one of her very few anecdotes, describing one of her darkest moments--a miscarriage at the age of 40-- she tells us, Mitt was by her side. Asleep. She chose not to wake him up for hours while she lost the pregnancy. What is that telling us about her husband? He's a good sleeper? He doesn't need to wake up for the 3 am emergency, because she will handle it herself?

One knows she has suffered - but she seems to have learned nothing from it. Smug, elitist, condescending - country club politics.
